Securing your neighborhood, Why and How
This is a hot button issue of mine. Even before George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin I could see that our neighborhoods would need more protection going forward than what our dwindling police forces can provide. I thought it very important to touch on this topic.
We are a population of over 316,000,000 and growing. Barring some cataclysmic event we are on par to be a population of. I look at the census bureau information about estimated growth and they have us growing at nearly 2.3 mill a year from now till 2060. That seems like shotty estimation to me. The fact is there is only so much economy possibility and job availability. So what happens when 25% of the population is hungry and only 50% of your police is operating thanks to budget cuts.
Are you in a city that is falling to the wayside? Do you think Detroit will be the last? Below are some facts from an incredible article written by Michael Snyder of www.theeconomiccollpaseblog.com about Detroit. 19) The size of the police force in Detroit has been cut by about 40 percent over the past decade.
20) When you call the police in Detroit, it takes them an average of 58 minutes to respond.
21) Due to budget cutbacks, most police stations in Detroit are now closed to the public for 16 hours a day.
22) The violent crime rate in Detroit is five times higher than the national average.
23) The murder rate in Detroit is 11 times higher than it is in New York City.
24) Today, police solve less than 10 percent of the crimes that are committed in Detroit.
25) Crime has gotten so bad in Detroit that even the police are telling people to “enter Detroit at your own risk”.
I went looking for information about community security and all I found was info about how to protect your Linkdin group or you Meetup. The fact is we are so far removed from reality that it is scary. Waiting until you have to make a plan is the worst time to create a plan. This is my advice to you. Get started today.
You have to establish borders, not physical, in order to create an area for protection. It’s a novel idea. We might want to run it by the new crook leader of the DHS. Honestly though much thought should go into the layout of your “territory.” Keep in mind things like exits and entrances into the neighborhood as wells as through roads and how to combat those obstacles.
I understand that we are a country that loves our second amendment. Its very important to understand the consequences of that glock you carry around. If you plan on doing the neighborhood walks with a gun and nothing else. Plan to have your life turned upside down if the worst case scenario ever happens. I dont just mean shooting someone young or someone innocent but killing someone in general can have a profound effect on your psyche. I propose the use of less than lethal weapons while haveing your gun at your side. Mace, less than lethal round, tasers or whatever. Integrate these into your plan so you have a defense against a defense if you know what I am saying.
http://www.naselfdefense.com/Silent_Weapons.htm just one of many sites that has a nice array of less than lethals.
Get started today and make a plan. You know me, James Walton from I Am Liberty. Its just as much about the community as it is about the individual. Especially when it comes to security.
Less than lethal rounds
