I AM Liberty Show: Adding Self Sufficiency and Entreprenuership to School
These terrible school shootings have called us to question how school has changed. They have also called us to question what should change about school. We know that we are approaching a time of great change and that school should not be left out of that change. I would like to put the killing and the gun control talk aside and talk about what else we can improve in schools to better prepare our kids for the real world.
With advances in science and nutrition its clear now that what you put in your body affects you. What you eat can dictate your quality of life. To me, it seems counterintuitive that we do not teach kids how to cook for themselves. I think classes in nutrition and in cooking are just the start of this change in schools.
I would like to call traditional sports into question as well. While baseball and football may offer things like scholarships, I think its time to start considering things like jiu jitsu and archery as well as monitored target shooting for extra curricular activities. Self-defense doesn’t go away. All the gun control laws in the world won’t keep guns out of bad guys hands and they wont keep bad guys away.
There is a lot to consider when it comes to creating schools that focus on the truly important parts of human life. My dream school would have 4 core values.
